Baker Suite and Friends : Adelaide Fringe festival

Woodville Town Hall, 76 Woodville Road, Woodville, Adelaide

For one night only, The Baker Suite ‘Super-Band’ and special guest singers will take you on a musical journey of songs penned by the late, great, master-songwriter, John Baker.

Experience the endurance of love, music, stories and friendship in the glorious Woodville Town Hall on Thursday March 5. Doors and bar open at 6pm. Show 7-9pm. The last time these songs were performed was the evening Baker was inducted into the South Australian Music Hall of Fame in 2018 - one month before he passed away from a long battle with cancer.

The guest singers paying homage to Baker’s songs are all songwriters in their own right and have each chosen one of Johns songs that suits them perfectly. They include: Nancy Bates, Kevin Bennett (The Flood), Lou Blackwell, Al Bonnin, Di Caught, Robyn Chalklen/Chris Parkinson (The Yearlings), Taasha Coates (The Audreys), Mark Elberg (Huckleberry Swedes), Liz Ferraretto (State Opera), Vonda Last, Jen Lush, Jim Redgate, Kathy Renner, Lisa Richards, Ben Searcy, Chris E Thomas and Jessica Wishart.

The musicians for this show are Julian Ferraretto (violin), Al Valodze (guitar), Lyndon Gray (double bass), Enrico Mick Morena and BJ Barker (drums), Karen deNardi (viola), Adrian Ferraretto (cello), Emma Woolcock (violin), Chris Parkinson, Dylan Woolcock and Jim Redgate (guitars), Greg Carger (trumpet) and Gayle Buckby (accordion).

“It’s morphed into a mega-gorgeous-super-band and will sound incredible in the luxurious surroundings of the Woodville Town Hall which is such a perfect venue for Johns music. Every one involved in the show has played with John in an ensemble during his long career in music, or known him in some way. This includes all the musicians, the singers, the back of house staff (stage Manager, door person, bar staff, etc) and even the wine and beer suppliers (Shottesbrooke Wine and the Wheatsheaf Hotel).
